Effective Bible Study: The Word as Water

Ephesians 5:25-26 NKJV
“Husbands, love your wives, just as Christ also loved the church and gave Himself for her, 26 that He might [a]sanctify and cleanse her with the washing of water by the word.”
Water is an amazing cleansing agent that we use on a daily basis. Can you imagine if we did not have water as a cleansing agent? This world would be filthy. Not only do we use water to cleanse our bodies on the outside, we also use water to cleanse our bodies on the inside.
One of the things that we should never forget is that God never does anything that is outside his word. It is this same word that God uses to cleanse us through the in working of the Holy Spirit. Ephesians tells us that Jesus gave himself up so that he might sanctify and cleanse the church by the washing of the water by the word.
The Holy Spirit uses the word when we read it and meditate on it to cleanse our souls.
The word of God purify our thoughts and scrubs our motives and desires. As we read this word and meditate on it cleanses our conscience and transforms us to be more like Christ.
Though we are born again, we must constantly continue to interact with the word of God because as we do so, it continues to cleanse our minds and thoughts, it continues to remove spots and blemishes in our character. It is in our continued interaction with the word that we hate sin and embrace righteousness. It is the word that cleanses us and strengthens us to stand against temptation and the traps of the enemy.
If the word is water that cleanses us, how often do you need to clean up? What are some spots in your character that the word has washed away?
