2 Timothy 3:16-17 NKJV
16 All Scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for [a]instruction in righteousness, 17 that the man of God may be complete, thoroughly equipped for every good work.
Practical Christian living, that’s the challenge many of us have. Yes we are born again and we love the Lord, we go to church and all but when it comes to Monday through Saturday, we struggle in living out our Christian faith. This is where the writings of the Apostle Paul come in handy because they are filled with teachings on practical Christian living.
Paul’s letters to different churches are filled with issues upon issues especially on how to relate to one another and also how to deal with the desires of the flesh. They explain who we are in Christ and the new perspective we should have towards life and our relationship with God.
Just as Paul tells his young protégée Timothy, this word is indeed profitable for correction and instruction in righteousness. When we read the epistles of Paul we meet people who had the same struggles that we have today. Struggles with sexuality, forgiveness, trying to earn salvation through works, giving and so many other issues we face as a church today. Most importantly we are able to glean from the solutions that Paul offered guided by the Holy Spirit.
These teachings have a purpose which is to make you and I complete and thoroughly equipped for every good work. Remember Jesus said that the whole law can be summed up in this manner, Love the Lord your God with all your heart and love your neighbour as yourself. As we read the epistles of Paul we gain deeper insight into our salvation and how to relate with one another and the world now that we are a new creation. These letters bring us to a place f maturity in Christ.
