A man goes to the doctor and says, “Doctor, I’m coughing my heart out. It feels like my lungs are burning up.” “Let’s take a look,” says the doctor. So the doctor examines him. “It’s not looking good. But you’re in luck. I’ve got a bottle of medicine here. The instructions are on the bottle. It’ll clear this up in three days.” Five days later the man returns. “Doctor, you told me this stuff would cure me in three days. I’m not getting better. I’m getting worse.” “Did you read the instructions?” the doctor asks. “Of course I read the instructions,” the man replies. “It says …” The doctor snatches the bottle out of his hand. “Gimme that bottle. This bottle is unopened.” “You didn’t say I had to open it.” Says the man. “Listen, you came in to see me. I examined you. I diagnosed your problem. I gave you the medicine. Now it’s over to you to take it if you want a change in your life.”
Joshua 1:8 ESV
This Book of the Law shall not depart from your mouth, but you shall meditate on it day and night, so that you may be careful to do according to all that is written in it. For then you will make your way prosperous, and then you will have good success.
There is no way you can be dedicated to God and you are not dedicated to his word. On the same note you cannot be dedicated to God’s word if you do not know it. The only way to know the word is to read it.
God tells Joshua that this word of the law shall not depart from his mouth. You would think God would say that this word should not depart from his mind. You and I should not just know the word but we should speak it.
For out of the abundance of the heart his mouth speaks.
Joshua was to meditate on the word every day and night that’s basically all the time. How much time do we put in the word?
Do you only read the word on Sunday when you attend church?
My interaction with the word is a demonstration of my dedication to God.
Selah. (pause and think about that)
That statement right there is heavy. Lord have mercy on us and forgive us for neglecting your word.
The word is a lamp unto our feet and a light to our path
His word reveals to us His heart and the plans he has for us. This same word renews our mind so that we no longer confirm to the patterns of the world.this same word is the offensive weapon we have been given to fight against the enemy.
Commitment to God and his word is something we demonstrate by our actions..
Lord help us to love your word, help us to understand and meditate on it. Holy Spirit help us to remember and to hide your word in our hearts that we may not sin against you.
May we show our commitment to God by being committed to his word.
