Christian Apparel; Humility and Meekness

Colossians 3:12-15 (NKJV)
12 Therefore, as the elect of God, holy and beloved, put on tender mercies, kindness, humility, meekness, longsuffering; 13 bearing with one another, and forgiving one another, if anyone has a complaint against another; even as Christ forgave you, so you also must do. 14 But above all these things put on love, which is the bond of perfection.

We are calling this week fashion week because we are learning what to put off and what we are to cloth ourselves with. Yesterday we talked about clothing ourselves with tender mercies and kindness which have a lot to do with how we relate with others. Today we look inward as we talk about humility and long suffering.
The bible tells us in the book of James 4:10 that we are to humble ourselves before the Lord and He will lift us up. Humility is not something we ask God to do for us; it is something we put on ourselves. To be humble is to be lowly and modest; it is opposed to being proud or haughty, arrogant or assuming. That definition reminds me of;
Philippians 2:3 (NKJV)
3 Let nothing be done through selfish ambition or conceit, but in lowliness of mind let each esteem others better than himself.

Christ though He was and is God humbled Himself to be born as a baby in a human body. In fact the bible says in Philippians 2 talking about Christ that He made Himself of no reputation, taking the form of a bond servant, and coming in the likeness of men. Now that is humility.

We also must put on Meekness. The bible says that Moses was the meekest man more than all the men who lived on the face of the earth. To be meek means that one is gentle and humble in the way he deals with others in words and action. Not only that, it also means that one is submissive and obedient to the Lord having a secure and confident trust in the Lord being willing and able to do what He commands.

These two have to do a lot more with the attitudes of our heart. Remember Christ now lives in your heart and as we learned yesterday, God would never ask you to do something that He has not already equipped you to do.

Today ensure that your heart is clothed with humility and meekness.
