Book of the Law

Joshua 1:8 NKJV
This Book of the Law shall not depart from your mouth, but you shall meditate in it day and night, that you may observe to do according to all that is written in it. For then you will make your way prosperous, and then you will have good success.
Moses the great man of God of his generation has died and the children of Israel are yet to enter the promised land and now Joshua has to take over and bring them in. That’s a huge responsibility. God speaks to Joshua to reassure him that he is with him and he has the capacity to finish the task. Joshua 1:8 is what I call God’s success formula.
Life on earth is governed by laws, the laws of nature. If you ignore the laws of nature then you will suffer the consequences. We have the law of gravity, the laws of physics, the law of sowing and reaping and many others. In the same way, we also have spiritual laws that govern how we interact with the spiritual world. Remember we are spirit, soul and body thus we are affected by both laws of nature and spiritual laws.
God tells Joshua to focus on the book that contains the law. Think about this, by then there was only the first 5 books of the old testament. God is basically telling Joshua that there is a set way of doing things both in the physical and the spiritual world, and if you are to succeed, you must know these laws.
The same applies to us even today. Remember the bible tells us that God’s people perish for lack of knowledge. We are ignorant of these laws and this causes us to miss out on God’s best for us. If you and I want to succeed, we must study the book of the law the bible, it is the first place to start. Jesus said that man cannot live by bread alone but by every word that proceeds from the mouth of God. This book of the law, that’s where we begin.
Reflective Thoughts.
Do you pay as much attention to spiritual laws as you pay to physical laws?
How much attention do you give to reading the word of God?
In which area of your life is ignorance hurting you? What are you willing to do to grow in that area?
