Birds and Lilies

Have you ever tried bird watching? A friend of mine is a bird watcher and he tells me in Kenya we have some of the most amazing birds you will ever see. I am not much of a bird watcher myself but I tend to believe what he says. What I notice is the flowers we have and its incredible. Our flowers are exported to western countries and they pay to dollars for them. Beautiful flowers that are here today and gone tomorrow.
Matthew 6:29-30
See how the lilies and wildflowers of the field grow; they do not labor nor do they spin [wool to make clothing], 29 yet I say to you that not even Solomon in all his glory and splendor dressed himself like one of these. 30 But if God so clothes the grass of the field, which is alive and green today and tomorrow is [cut and] thrown [as fuel] into the furnace, will He not much more clothe you? You of little faith!
As a believer these scriptures should be enough motivation for us to take up bird watching and also smell and notice the flowers. Why, because they are a reminder of the provision of God and His faithfulness. The birds of the air neither sow nor do they reap but all through from creation till today, God continues to provide for them and they never worry because there is nothing to eat. The lilies and wild flowers look so beautiful; God himself clothes them in such splendor. Jesus says that even Solomon in all his glory did not dress himself like one of these yet the flowers are here today and Gone tomorrow.
You and I are of more value to God than the birds and the flowers. Jesus died for you and I and not the birds and the flowers, that’s how important we are to him and besides Jesus says that God knows that we have need of these things so before we even ask God already knows.
Are you worried about food and clothes? Take some time out and watch the birds and the flowers in the field. They are a testimony that God is faithful and as you look at them remember God is saying, “If I can take care of them, what makes you think that I cannot take care of you?”
Look to God and trust in him, he alone is your source and sustainer.
