38 Then Mary said, “[k]Behold, I am the servant of the Lord; may it be done to me according to your word.” And the angel left her.
Can you imagine what it must have been like for Mary? There you are minding your own business and then an angel appears right before you! That in itself must have been quite an experience but then again, the news that the angel brought is something that is unheard of. How can a virgin conceive without having relations with a man?
Mary on receiving the news and even though she does not understand the full details of how this will all come together, agrees with God’s word and she declares “be it unto me according to your word!”
The third lesson we learn is we must agree with God’s word for us to experience its reality in our life. Remember we have already learned that God cannot lie and number two that nothing is impossible with God.
How many times do we read the many promises that are contained in the bible concerning us but then we doubt because of what we see in the natural? We fall back on our experiences and what others tell us and in so doing we fail to agree with the word of God and thus we discount it and it becomes of no effect in our lives.
Think about Joshua agreeing with the word of the Lord to go round the walls of Jericho. I am sure the men and women of Jericho must have thought that the Israelites were a crazy lot who had lost their minds because humanly speaking, this was the most ridiculous war strategy anyone could have come up with. Joshua agreed with God and Jericho was conquered!
The question then would be, when what you see in the natural seems to be the exact opposite of what Gods word say over your life, then what will you be in agreement with? When agreement with God’s word seems to attract all sorts of oppression rejection and opposition then whose report will you believe? Like Mary may you and I be firm in our belief, may we agree with God’s word and say;
“Be it unto me Lord according to your word!”
In what area of your life are you finding it hard to agree with what the word of God says?
Why are you afraid to believe what God says concerning that area of your life?
God keeps His promises and nothing is impossible with Him! Do you believe that…… not just in your head but in your heart?
