Isaiah 9:6-7 NIV
6 For to us a child is born, to us a son is given, and the government will be on his shoulders. And he will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God,
Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.
7 Of the greatness of his government and peace there will be no end.
This child that will be born, this son that will be given will be called wonderful counselor mighty God, what a title for a little baby in a manger. But then, that’s the thing that many miss out on, he came as a child but in reality he was the mighty God.
His name shall be called wonderful because he is a wonderful God and his works are wonderful. He is a God that is full of wonder and miracles. The moment you think you have him figured out, he does something that makes you realize that there is more of Him that you are yet to know. No wonder the apostle Paul would say; “That I may know him and the power of his resurrection!”
He is a counselor because in him we find all the counsel of God. This was not just a baby in a manger, he is the word of God according to John 1. In the beginning was the word and the word was with God and the word was God!
The Holy Spirit who is our counselor is one with him and he comes to tell us of Christ and to remind us of all that he has told us!
This child that was born, this son that was given is also a mighty God. Jesus told us that if we have seen him we have seen the father and that he and the father are one!
Philippians 2:5-7 NIV
5 In your relationships with one another, have the same mindset as Christ Jesus: 6 Who, being in very nature[a] God, did not consider equality with God something to be used to his own advantage; 7 rather, he made himself nothing by taking the very nature[b] of a servant, being made in human likeness.
He was both fully God and fully Man, what a child!
How wonderful is Jesus to you?
Psalm 1 Blessed is the man who walks not in the counsel of the wicked. How often do you allow the wonderful counselor to give you counsel?
Jesus is the mighty God… What does that mean to you?
