“Make your ways known to me, Lord; teach me your paths. Guide me in your truth and teach me, for you are the God of my salvation; I wait for you all day long.”
There are a lot of paths you can take in life. How do we know which is the right one? We can take a cue from King David who wanted to be close to the Lord. He continually asked the Lord to teach him the right way to go.
Make Your Way Known
This was a common prayer of David. He wanted to know the ways of the Lord, and he wanted to be on the right path. He sought the Lord’s guidance and was willing to wait until he got it. David had a teachable heart. His heart wanted God to make His ways known to him. We would do good to cultivate the same heart.
Teach Me Your Paths
This is a common desire for most people. They want to know what God’s will for their lives is. The question is: “Do you have a teachable heart?” Is your heart clean before Him? Are you seeking to grow in your knowledge and faith in Jesus Christ? Often, we want God to bless what we are doing instead of us seeking out what God wants to bless. If God doesn’t answer us promptly, we get impatient and do our own thing. Seek the path God has for you and then wait until He reveals it to you.
Guide Me In Truth
A teachable heart is open to instruction, guidance and correction. It develops patience and trust over time and eagerly desires to hear from the Lord. How do you form a heart like that? Read God’s word, pray, and walk in faith. Pretty soon you will see your heart starting to change. A daily prayer should be “Guide me in your truth, Lord.”
I Wait On You
The final aspect of learning the paths of the Lord is waiting. God’s timing is always the best. If we can be patient for God to move, we will see our paths straighten out. As we are obedient to his word, we see his provision. Wait on the Lord. Watch Him work and follow that path.
